ABOUT

This three-part series is designed to equip emerging researchers, ECRs, and researchers new to inclusive research with the theoretical grounding, methodological insights, and practical strategies needed to conduct inclusive research that is ethical, impactful, and responsive to diverse communities.

Foundations and Frameworks: Theories, Methods, and Fit: This workshop introduces the core principles of inclusive research by weaving together theory and method. Participants will explore critical frameworks such as participatory, decolonial, feminist, and disability-led approaches, and learn how these shape inclusive methodologies. Through interactive discussions and real-world examples, researchers will reflect on their own positionality, assess the suitability of inclusive research for their projects, and begin designing research that aligns with inclusive values.

Designing for Inclusion: Planning, Barriers, and Enablers: This session focuses on the practicalities of designing inclusive research. Participants will learn how to select and adapt methods to suit the needs of their population of study, considering accessibility, communication, and cultural responsiveness. The workshop will guide researchers through identifying potential barriers and enablers, and developing strategies to foster meaningful engagement. Participants will leave with a draft inclusive research plan tailored to their context.

Inclusive Research in Practice: Engagement, Ethics, and Impact: In the final workshop, participants will explore how to enact inclusive research in real-world settings. Topics include building trust and relationships, co-producing knowledge, ethical engagement, and inclusive dissemination. Through case studies and peer exchange, researchers will learn how to maintain integrity and responsiveness throughout the research process. The session concludes with participants developing an action plan to implement inclusive research in their own work.
