ABOUT

All universities are operating in an increasingly complex geopolitical environment, which in Australia is accompanied by a growing suite of existing and new legislation and compliance obligations. In addition, recent amendments to the Defence Trade Control (DTC) Amendment Act (2024) and the Australian Research Council Act 2001 (Cth) introduced new obligations and powers that apply when matters relating to security, defence or international relations arise when engaging with international partners. Taken together, these legislative obligations impact the way research is conducted at Griffith. Our approach to secure international engagement prioritises proportionality, respect, collaboration and shared ownership that relies on building awareness of potential risks and fostering an environment in which these are recognised and mitigated. This workshop will provide up-to-date advice and outline the processes that Griffith University has in place to identify, mitigate and navigate an increasing complex environment.
This webinar is an elective workshop in the Graduate Research Development's training program for HDR supervisors. All other researchers are welcome to attend.
