PROGRAM DETAILS
From sun to circuit
Explore the science and engineering of solar energy through the design, construction and testing of a solar-powered electrical device. Students will learn how photovoltaic cells convert sunlight into electrical energy and investigate how factors such as light intensity, voltage, current and circuit configuration influence system performance. This practical exercise involves building and refining working circuits, conducting experiments and analysing results to improve efficiency, while developing problem-solving, testing and engineering design skills used by electrical and renewable energy engineers to create sustainable technologies for real-world applications.
Water filtration
Explore the role of environmental engineering in addressing one of the world's most important challenges: access to clean and safe drinking water. Students will learn how engineers design practical and affordable water treatment solutions using locally available materials, and how they balance performance, cost and efficiency to meet the needs of different communities. This practical exercise involves designing, building and testing a water filtration system using sand and charcoal to remove visible contaminants from water. Through experimentation, analysis and redesign, students will investigate how filtration works, evaluate the effectiveness of different approaches and develop problem-solving skills used by engineers to improve health and wellbeing around the world.
Mola Structural Model
Explore the world of structural engineering, a discipline responsible for designing the buildings, bridges and infrastructure that support modern society. Students will learn how engineers use principles of tension, compression, stability and load distribution to create structures that are safe, efficient and resilient, while responding to challenges such as urban growth, sustainability and natural hazards. This practical exercise involves constructing and testing a variety of structural forms using Mola Models, observing how they respond to loads and external forces, and refining designs through experimentation. Through hands-on investigation, students will develop creative problem-solving skills and gain insight into the engineering design process.
Pathways presentation
Our Future Students team delivers a clear, engaging presentation for Year 11 students exploring pathways into engineering careers. We outline key study options and what to expect academically and socially. Students will also gain practical information on entry pathways, including scholarships and support services, to confidently plan their next steps.
